The Warringah Freeway at Roseville Bridge is a major arterial route carrying traffic from Sydney’s Northern beaches to Chatswood and the city. The southbound carriageway runs adjacent to a significant sandstone rock cutting. Rockfalls from the cutting were becoming more common and presenting an unacceptable hazard to motorists & the general public. Access to the fence location was extremely difficult due to the high, narrow benches cut into the cutting during the freeway construction. The installation work needed to be done by hand using industrial rope access techniques and at night due to traffic control restrictions on such an important route.
